Men's Spotlight

The boys are wasting no time laying down some serious markers this indoor season. One of the biggest headlines this week was Quincy Wilson's highly anticipated college commitment. The Bullis School star, a class of 2026 phenom, has chosen to stay close to home and represent the University of Maryland. Already possessing blistering speed and incredible range from the 200m to the 800m, Wilson's future looks bright in College Park. This is a huge get for the Terps, and he is looking like one of the top overall recruits in the class.

Another major announcement came from Issam Asinga, the Montverde Academy sprinter, who is officially heading to Texas A&M. Asinga, known for his incredible top-end speed in the 100m and 200m, will be a valuable asset to the Aggies' already impressive sprint program. Speaking of the Aggies, it is worth looking back at one of their other all time recruits with Athing Mu going there back in 2020. Christian Miller, another highly touted sprinter, also firmed up his plans to join the University of Georgia Bulldogs, where he'll look to continue his impressive development. The Bulldogs also saw success in recruiting Matthew Boling back in 2019.

Evan Bradshaw also had a standout week with his impressive early-season 500m performance at the Dominion meet. His time of 1:09.30 is a strong indicator of his fitness and potential for a breakout season. Bradshaw is definitely an athlete recruiters should be watching closely.

Women's Spotlight

On the women's side, Shawnti Jackson is already making an impact at the University of Arkansas. While official race results are still under wraps, rumors are swirling about her incredible performances in training. Jackson, who chose Arkansas over numerous other top programs, is expected to contend for national titles in the sprints. Another outstanding athlete who chose Arkansas, Athing Mu, is an olympic gold medalist who proves that athletes can find success at the school.

At the Dominion meet, Zylaia Ramsey of Clover Hill High School had a spectacular showing, clocking a blazing 7.66 in the 55m. This mark is currently a Virginia state leader and earns her a valuable 834 WA points. Ramsey is definitely one to watch in the sprints this season.

Distance fans should also keep an eye on Madeline Montgomery of Monacan High School. Her 5:31.44 in the 1600m at the Dominion meet is a solid early-season performance and suggests she's poised for a strong campaign in the longer distances.

Recruiting Watch

This week was highlighted by several major college commitments. As mentioned, Quincy Wilson's decision to stay in-state and attend the University of Maryland is a significant victory for the Terps. His immense potential and versatility make him a valuable addition to their program.

Issam Asinga's commitment to Texas A&M further strengthens their already formidable sprint squad. With Asinga joining the ranks, the Aggies are looking like a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. He joins an impressive list of former athletes with the same rating as him, including Trentavis Friday, who went to Florida State.

On the women's side, although Shawnti Jackson has already started her collegiate career at Arkansas, it's worth reiterating the significance of her choosing the Razorbacks. Her talent and potential make her a cornerstone of their program for the next few years.

Performances of the Week

  1. Zylaia Ramsey - 55m (7.66): Ramsey's impressive 7.66 in the 55m at the Dominion meet not only secured her a victory but also established her as a Virginia state leader. This performance is a testament to her hard work and dedication and signals a promising season ahead.

  2. Evan Bradshaw - 500m (1:09.30): Bradshaw's early-season 1:09.30 in the 500m is a noteworthy achievement. While it's still early in the season, this time positions him well within the state rankings and sets the stage for further improvement as the season progresses.

Tip of the Week

For Athletes: Focus on Recovery: The indoor season is demanding with frequent meets and limited time for recovery. Prioritize sleep, nutrition, and active recovery (light jogging, stretching, foam rolling) to minimize injury risk and optimize performance. Proper recovery is just as important as hard training.

That's all for this week's NOR/MAN Week in Review! Stay tuned for more updates on the latest performances, recruiting news, and insights from the world of high school track and field.
